Coastlines 14/15 -- Three Early First Appearances by Charles Bukowski (1960)

Published in the Spring of 1960, this special Issue from Coastlines featured Los Angeles writers. Bukowski’s three poems are all first appearances:

No Charge
Plea To A Passing Maid
Love Is A Piece Of Paper Torn To Bits

Both No Charge and Love Is A Piece Of Paper Torn To Bits were published in this issue months before they appeared Flower, Fist and Bestial Wail.

Plea To A Passing Maid would later appear in The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses Over The Hills (1969).

Contributors include Charles Bukowski, Ann Stanford, Thomas McGrath, Gil Orlovitz, et al.

This was Bukowski’s second appearance in Coastlines. Even though this happened to be a special issue for Los Angeles writers, Coastlines was a long-running poetry journal that was very influential in the L.A poetry scene. Bukowski would appear in four issues between 1959 – 1964.

This copy is in Very Good condition with pen markings and a library stamp on the front cover. Some light creases to the rear cover and some interior pages. Still, a nice copy of this important literary magazine out of Southern California.
