Written by Abel Debritto, the undisputed scholar on all-things Bukowski, this chapbook explores how censorship unwittingly fed into the Bukowski “myth” and helped fuel his success.

Bukowski didn’t look to be censored like writers some writers did just to get attention, but rather stumbled upon it when journals he appeared in were censored after his work appeared in them – although there was no real connection between the two. His role as an editor also created controversy when he published Jack Micheline’s Skinny Dynamite in the arts section of Open City. This resulted heavy fines which eventually forced the weekly to close.

Yes, Bukowski was a true outsider, but incidents like this also gave him an outlaw persona.
