Published by Black Sparrow Press in 1985, The Official Charles Bukowski 1985 Calender [SIC] was produced in very limited quantities.

This copy is signed by Bukowski and belonged to Red Stodolsky who hung it in his Baroque Book Store. Bukowski would go by Red’s shop regularly and the two would go to lunch at Musso & Frank Grill. But first Bukowski would sit and sign a pile of books for Red to sell.

Making this copy more special is that Red added two additional entries: The day Bukowski died and the wedding of Bukowski and Linda Lee Beighle (which Red and his wife Mina attended).

This copy has seen better days. There is heavy sunning to the covers, some chips to the front cover and repair tape alongside the hole Red made to hang it. The internal pages show some aging, but are fairly clean.

The spiral-bound calendar features a full-page illustration for each month spoofing a day-in-the-life of Bukowski. Individual dates on the calendar cite important moments in Bukowski's life and other events in literary and pop-culture history.

Charles Putris illustrated the calendar and his grainy depictions of Bukowski’s gritty life is spot on. I’m a little surprised John Martin had the sense of humor to print it after trying to protect Bukowski’s “image” for so long.
