This is a rare photograph shot at the wedding of Bukowski and Linda Lee Beighle.
Robert Crumb also used this photograph to create a unique drawing of Bukowski. It was issued as a print by the legendary Jeffrey Weinberg of Water Row Books as part of his “Meet the Beats” series. It was also used for the cover of “Charles Bukowski: A sure Bet” by Gerald Locklin, also produced by Water Row Books.
The photograph was taken by Red Stodolsky, who attended the wedding with his wife Mina. Red was the owner of Baroque Book Store and a close friend of Charles Bukowski. Bukowski would go by Red’s shop regularly and the two would go to lunch at Musso & Frank Grill. But first Bukowski would sit and sign a pile of books for Red to sell.
The photograph is printed on Kodak photo paper and measures approximately 3.75” x 4.5”. There is a thin line on the right side of the photograph where the negative was over exposed.
A very nice composition capturing a special day in Bukowski’s life.
