Published in 1984 by Paget Press (Sutton West), this is the First Hardcover Trade Edition of the original script for Barfly, preceding the Black Sparrow Press edition by three years.

This copy is signed on the title page by Charles Bukowski who has added his trademark Little Man with a Bottle Sketch.

Because of the black cover, most copies of this edition have visible shelf wear, but this copy has only a couple of small marks on the top corners. Near Fine ++.

This copy came from estate of Red Stodolsky, owner of Baroque Book Store and a close friend of Charles Bukowski. Bukowski would go by Red’s shop regularly and the two would go to lunch at Musso & Frank Grill. But first Bukowski would sit and sign a pile of books for Red to sell. The great thing about these copies is that Bukowski actually held the books as he signed them. With the limited-edition Black Sparrow Books, Bukowski would sign individual pages that were later inserted into the books.

In terms of the story line, roughly 80 percent of the dialog is the same as the Black Sparrow version. Most of the changes take place in the second half of the script.

This version contains 20 Charles Bukowski drawings of various events that happen in the book. To me, they are much more interesting to look at than the various pictures from the set of the movie that appeared in the later screenplay.
