Published by Black Sparrow Press in 1978, this is a Presentation Copy of Women with a great painting by Charles Bukowski. This is perhaps the most quintessential painting for the book that Bukowski did, replete with fun, if not obvious symbolism.
There were 75 copies of this edition, with 10 of those being presentation copies. Below is the description from Krumhansl:
91 signed copies each with an original painting by Bukowski tipped in were published 15 December 1978: 75 copies numbered 1-75 plus 16 copies, 10 numbered and marked "Presentation Copy"; and 1 each marked "Author's Copy," "Publisher's Copy," "Printer's Copy," "Binder's Copy," "File Copy," and "Linda Lee's Copy."
The book’s one major flaw is sunning to the spine that has all but made the pattern on clothe disappear. The spine label has sunning as well, but the title has retained its blue color. The book is also a bit forward-leaning, perhaps partly from inserting the painting. There is also a small stain on the fore edge of the book.
All-in-all, a great painting in a book that remains very attractive.
