The September 1970 issue of Fling (Vo. 13, No. 4) features the Charles Bukowski short story, The Inquisitor.

Although there is a poem in Mockingbird Wish Me Luck by the same name, this is a short story that appears to be uncollected.

Illustrations for this story were done by Robert Kresin, a commercial illustrator out of Chicago. Kresin was also an illustrator for the Childcraft series of books, a sort of encyclopedia for young children. With simple texts and illustrations, the volumes were designed to make learning fun. Each volume addressed different subjects, including literature — such as short stories and poetry, including fairy tales and nursery rhymes — as well as mathematics and the sciences.

The magazine is in Very Good ++ condition with some light general wear, a sticker on the front cover (8/6), some light creases to the spine, and some light foxing to the interior pages.

Fling was another attempt to follow Hugh Hefner’s success. It was founded in 1957 by Relim Publishing Company out of Chicago. Bukowski short stories appeared in at least 10 issues of Fling between 1970-1986.
