Love Is a Dog From Hell (Crazy Love) Film Press Kit
Love Is a Dog From Hell (Crazy Love) Film Press Kit
Released in 1987, Love Is a Dog From Hell is a three-act film based on the writings of Charles Bukowski, including a scene from Ham on Rye and the short story, The Copulating Mermaid of Venice, California
The film also goes by the more common title Crazy Love, depending on different international markets. The film follows the story of Harry beginning at 12 years old through age 30, primarily focusing on his coming-of-age sexual awareness to his complicated understanding of love.
Although some have called it a dramatic comedy, it was a little uncomfortable for me to watch when I first viewed it. If there is comedy, it’s the kind of European comedy you’d feel watching Das Boat.
Unexpectedly, the third part based on The Copulating Mermaid of Venice, California, is perhaps the most beautiful and (strangely) most uplifting part of the film. For those not familiar, it’s the story of two men who steal a young woman’s corpse and bring it to the sea for burial, where Harry makes love to her in the ocean.
The Press Kits contains the standard synopsis for the film with the plot, cast of characters, etc. There are seven 8” x 10” black and white photographs, with one particularly captivating showing director Dominique Deruddere coaching the two primary young actors.
The kit is housed in a folder from Cineplex Odeon Films, but unfortunately a previous owner decided to write Love Is A Gog From Hell in marker across the top front.
I don’t have the background to grade Film Kits, but if it were a book I’d grade it Very Good ++ because the folder is a little beat up and the synopsis shows toning. See pics. The photos themselves are all in great shape.
