If We Take – Signed by Charles Bukowski (1970)

This is the first Charles Bukowski New Years Greeting from Black Sparrow Press.

The 1970 New Years Greeting (published December 26, 1969) featured the Bukowski poem “If We Take.” There were only 350 copies printed, 100 of which were signed.

Though uncalled for, Bukowski has signed this copy with his classic Little Man with a Bottle sketch.

Unfortunately, some fool decided to add their own limitation to the colophon page, writing in pen “10/100”. This was not the way Black Sparrow Press issued the greeting. The signature is also a later one, probably from the 1980s.

The book is a handsome piece, handsewn with blue thread in green paper wrappers, measuring 5.25” x 4.5”.
