Black Cat Review Issue 2 – Signed by Neeli Cherry (1963)
Published in 1963, Black Cat Review Issue 2 featured a very cool drawing and two letters by Charles Bukowski.
Neeli Cherry (later Neeli Cherkovski) published The Black Cat Review at the ripe old age of 18. He was a life-long (his lifetime) friend of Bukowski after Jory Sherman introduced Bukowski to the Cherry family, which owned a bookstore and art gallery in San Bernardino, California.
Neeli would go on to write the first birography of Bukowski, as well as co-publish three issues of Laugh Literary and Man the Humping Guns with Bukowski. Neeli also produced the first San Francisco Poetry Festival, and in the early-1990s helped to found Café Arts Month, a yearly event celebrating San Francisco's café culture.
This issue also has ads for the Cherry family business, KFMW where Neeli’s DJ’d, and a hand-signed poem by Neeli Cherry.
This copy is in Very Good + condition with heavy browning to the covers and some browning to the interior pages. Binding is solid.
Overall, a solid copy of this historically significant poetry journal out of San Bernardino, California.
