Signed Issue of Arcade 3 with a Bukowski Short-Story Illustrated by R. Crumb, Photo Copies of Pre-Production Layouts with a Signed Note From Bill Griffith to John Martin, Promotional Flyer From Arcade for upcoming Bukowski/Crumb Issue.
This is a great package for Bukowski and Underground Comix fans alike.
The package includes:
- A Bukowski signed copy of Arcade 3 (1975), which features the first collaboration between Bukowski and Robert Crumb. Crumb illustrates Bukowski’s short story, “BOP BOP AGAINST THAT CURTAIN”.
- A signed Note From Bill Griffith to John Martin, sharing photo copies of the page layouts for the short story (w/envelope addressed to John Martin).
- A promotional flyer from Arcade, The Comics Review, announcing the forthcoming issue of Arcade 3 which will feature the Bukowski/Crumb collaboration.
Published in 1975, “BOP BOP AGAINST THAT CURTAIN” marked the first collaboration between Bukowski and Robert Crumb.
“BOP BOP AGAINST THAT CURTAIN” first appeared in the Bukowski book, South of No North -- without the R. Crumb illustrations.
This version of the story runs three pages with five great Crumb illustrations.
This signed copy by Bukowski measures approximately 8" x 11". I’m not qualified to grade comics, but if this was a book I’d grade it Near-Fine-plus based on other copies I’ve owned.
The envelope to John Martin has wrinkles and creases and was opened using a letter opener.
The photocopies containing the signed note from Griffith measure 14” x 8.5” and are folded three times to fit in the envelope. They are not stapled and are in Fine condition.
The announcement has a photocopy stapled above it featuring a story from CREEM magazine on Underground Comix. It is folded once where the announcement is folded. It is in Fine condition.
The Arcade announcement for ARCADE 3 measures 14” x 8.5” and is folded once. It is also in Fine condition.
This rare set of items documents this great collaboration, which would extend to four Bukowski Black Sparrow books.
