This iconic photograph came from estate of Red Stodolsky, owner Baroque Book Store and a close friend of Charles Bukowski. Bukowski would go by Red’s shop regularly to sign books for him and then the two would go to lunch at Musso and Frank Grill.
Anyone who spent time at Baroque Book Store is probably familiar with this photo. It was a standout in Red's little gallery of photos that also included one of him with Henry Miller days before his death.
Bukowski's inscription is particularly poignant:
FOR RED -- TWO TOUGH BIRDS STILL FLYING
In addition to his signature, Bukowski also includes “Hank”, which he only used with friends.
The photograph measures 8”x12” and was taken by Charles Bukowski's wife Linda Lee Bukowski at their home in San Pedro in Sept. 1984.
A beautiful photograph of two close friends: Both Los Angeles legends in their own right.
