Here’s a great photograph showing Bukowski during his infamous appearance on the literary French television show, Apostrophes.
One thing that Bukowski always hated was talking about writing, especially with other writers. As a result, Bukowski showed up drunker than usual for the highbrow program.
Bukowski was the first foreign writer to be invited to the program and by the looking at the regretful face of host Bernard Pivot, Bukowski shouldn’t have been given the honor.
After arguing with Pivot and the other guests, Bukowski was 86’d on live television. Rumor has it, Bukowski’s books sold out in Paris the next day. Learn more.
