An issue of the Los Angeles underground weekly, featuring Charles Bukowski's "Notes of a Dirty Old Man." This very long column is an extended meditation on human parasites, bad diner food, and the indignities of working life, anchored by a late-night encounter with a pestilential New York cut steak and a recurring 9am phone call from a man who insists Bukowski's column wakes him every morning.

There's also a Pocket Memo column by Bukowski associate John Thomas, which appeared in a few issues.

The front cover features a striking full-page psychedelic illustration by Greg Buettner alongside a report on the arson attack on a San Pedro peace center. Interior includes a two-page photo spread touring Los Angeles head shops. The back cover listings include Nina Simone and Dick Gregory at the Shrine Auditorium and Simon and Garfunkel at the Hollywood Bowl. Large tabloid format, 17" x 11", black and white throughout.

Provenance: Mailing label addressed to John Bryan Sr. at the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio — the editor's father at his place of work.

The condition of this copy is a little rough due to tears and splits along the spine. The page edges also shot some small tears and browning. But the pages are fairly light and bright.
