This bootleg chapbook contains the Charles Bukowski short story, Life and Death in the Charity Ward.
It is credited to London Magazine with a copyright mark, which published the book by the same name. The story first appeared in Erections, Ejaculations and General Tales of Ordinary Madness.
The bootleg imprint is listed as “S Press Tonband Verlag" out of Dusseldorf Germany. Not much is known about who was actually behind the series of Bukowski chapbooks bearing the imprint. According to Wikipedia “S Press Tonbandverlag was a publisher of experimental literature , Beat poetry , and concrete poetry.” But it seems unlikely the press itself was behind these chapbooks bearing the name.
While the cover image is a bit low fidelity, overall it’s a nice chapbook with stiff covers and high-quality paper (including end pages).
This copy is in Near Fine condition with with a bit of wear to the covers. It measures approximately 8.5” x 5.5”.
In my years of collecting. I’ve only seen these chapbooks a handful of times over the years. A nice addition for a Bukowski completist.

Mike is passionate and fascinating. I bought him the 1968 vinyl "Poetry" with Steve Richmond, one of the rarest items related to Buk. I'm so happy.
