Published by Sun Dog Press in 1997, this broadside features the Al Purdy poem, LAMENT FOR BUKOWSKI.
The is a large broadside measuring approximately “16” x 11” with Purdy's poem printed over several photographs of Bukowski. The broadside is long out of print.
Unlike most broadsides that are dedicated to Bukowski, Purdy was a world-renowned poet. The Canadian writer was the winner of two Governor-General’s Awards for Poetry and the Order of Canada.
Purdy also had a regular correspondence with Bukowski between 1964-1965, when both writers were struggling – Bukowski more than Purdy. Their correspondence was documented in 1984 when Canadian publisher Paget Press published “The Bukowski/Purdy Letters, 1964-1974: A Decade of Dialogue”. (Although the title says 1964-1974, 99 percent of the letters were written between 1964-1965.)
Allen Berlinski is the publisher of Sun Dog Press. He is considered one of the all-time most prolific Bukowski collectors and he also corresponded with Bukowski. Sun Dog Press has published several Bukowski-related books, including “SUNLIGHT HERE I AM”, a large collection of Bukowski interviews.
