Intrepid 18/19 -- Two Uncollected Charles Bukowski Poems (1971)
Published in 1971, Intrepid 18/19 featured two Charles Bukowski poems:
A Blurb
That Liberating Movement
Both poems have yet to be published again.
Contributors include Paul Blackburn, Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, Timothy Leary, Denise Levertov, Peter Orlovsky, Gary Snyder, and others.
Bukowski would appear in seven issues of Intrepid between 1966 and 1972.
Edited by Allen De Loach in New York (issues 1-5) and then Buffalo (issues 6-41), Intrepid (1964-1980) published a large number of poets directly and indirectly associated with the New American Poetry, and especially Beat writers. Contributors included a long list of such influential figures as Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka), Philip Whalen, William Burroughs, Diane di Prima, Charles Bukowski, Ted Berrigan, Gary Snyder, Ted Enslin, and Charles Olson.
A consistent issue with Intrepid was the length of the staples in the binding, due to the thick, textured covers. Sometimes the staples barely make it through the back cover, other times the staples don’t.
This copy is in Near Fine condition with Oxidized staples and some rust marks from another copy on the rear cover.
Overall, a beautiful copy of this important poetry journal.
