Horsemeat (#121/125) with Signed Prospectus (Copy L)

To me, this is the Michael Montfort/Charles Bukowski masterpiece.

The primary reason is Montfort manages to capture the desperation, anxiety, and futility of the racetrack itself and the faces of would-be winners. These are the brutal racetrack scenes Bukowski had described so vividly since the early 1960s.

Published in 1982, Horsemeat contains 20 tipped-in photographs capturing a day at the track with Bukowski. It measures approximately 11.25” x 14 .25” and runs 50 pages. There is also a mounted photograph of Bukowski on the front cover.

This copy also comes with the publisher’s signed book prospectus. Only 26 lettered copies were signed, this one being the letter “L”. It’s a four-page booklet measuring 8” x 5" and has a tipped in photograph of Bukowski on the front. It has text from the book on the inside and the edition information on the back page.

The colophon page states:
This edition is limited to 125 copies numbered and signed by Charles Bukowski & Michael Montfort of which 100 are for sale.

Since this copy is number 121, this is one of the copies that was not for sale.

The book and prospectus are in Fine condition.
