This is the funeral card for those invited to Charles Bukowski’s memorial service, which took place on Monday, March 14, 1994, at Green Hills Mortuary Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
It consists of a single sheet of paper folded twice, with printing on four pages. Folded, it measures 5.25’ x 3.25”. This is the only copy I’ve seen that still has the folding card inside, which provides information on the art on the front of the announcement.
The second page features an excerpt from Bukowski’s classic poem, If We take. The poem was published as the 1970 Black Sparrow Press New Years Greeting and appeared in four Bukowski collections and three magazines over the years.
I’ve had a few of these, but this is the nicest copy I’ve seen so far.
