Published in 2000 to celebrate Bukowski’s 80th birthday, Free Thought. Vol. II, Issue I, this a Presentation copy that is printed on higher quality paper with a green masthead (instead of B&W). This copy is marked Presentation on the bottom right of the rear cover.
It contains a photo sheet signed by Michael Montfort with three Charles Bukowski photographs and an additional larger photograph that is unsigned. The photographs were used in the issue.
This is a great issue for Bukowski fans. Interviews alone include John Martin, William Packard, Linda Lee Bukowski, Michael Montfort, Carl Weissner, and Gerald Locklin. There is a reprint of 20 Tanks From Kasseldown and four poems:
- Thank God for Alleys
- Fight
- The Condition Book
- 200 Years
There is also an article by publisher Gary Aposhian a funny piece by Scott Harrison about meeting Bukowski.
Unlike the regular issue, this copy has never been folded and is in Fine condition.
The photo sheet measures 15’ x 11” and is marked “presentation” and signed by Michael Montfort. It is printed on very thin matt photographic paper, which has resulted in some creases along the edges. If framed, however, these imperfections should be negligible.
The larger photo of Bukowski in his Volkswagen measure 11.75” x 9.5” and is printed on the same paper but is in near perfect condition.
A very rare piece.
