Published in 1975 under the imprint THE OLD MARBLE PRESS, this broadside was actually issued by Black Sparrow Press. It is #42 of 50 numbered copies signed by Charles Bukowski.
Th poem Face of a Political Candidate on a Street Billboard was first published in the May 31,1974, issue of Los Angeles Free Press and was also recorded during Bukowski’s appearance at the Underwater Poetry Festival on October 5, 1974. It wasn’t published in a Black Sparrow book until 1979’s Play the Piano Drunk Like a Percussion Instrument Until the Fingers Begin to Bleed a Bit.
The poems is considered to be one of Bukowski’s best, appearing in four magazines and four books.
The broadside measures 8.5" x 14" and is in Very Good ++ condition with some faint creases. See photos.
