Exhibition Catalog and Flyer: ELMS LESTERS CELEBRATES CHARLES BUKOWSKI
In August 1996 Elms Lesters Painting Rooms staged the first ever multimedia exhibition celebrating the life and work of American realist writer CHARLES BUKOWSKI.
The two-week exhibition, conceived and curated by Paul Jones of the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, included a series of previously unpublished photographs of Bukowski by Joan Gannij, digitally enhanced IRIS prints by Michael Montfort and Giorgio Moroder, and family photographs selected by Bukowski’s widow Linda Lee Bukowski. Playing throughout the exhibition were selected videos and documentaries, and audio tapes of Bukowski at readings. On display were personal objects and clothing generously loaned by Linda Lee Bukowski.
This is the catalog from the exhibit. I was compiled by Fiona McKinnon, designed by Blue Source, and published by Elms Lesters. In a beautifully compact format, it measures 4.5” x 6.5” and runs 44 pages. In full color. it contains poems, extracts from interviews with Sean Penn, a previously unpublished poem, and 29 previously unpublished images, including photographs by Linda Lee Bukowski, Michael Montfort and Giorgio Moroder.
This copy comes with a handbill-sized flyer for the exhibit. Printed on thick stock, it measures approximately 8.25” x 6.75”.
The catalog is in as-new condition and still in the shrink-wrap. The flyer has a couple of very small light marks on the white back cover.
You’ll find a couple of other items from this exhibit in other sections of the site, including a holographic card.
