Bukowski, Photographs by Michael Montfort: The Final Book by Black Sparrow Press
Published in 2002, Bukowski contains over 100 photographs by Michael Montfort.
Fittingly, it was the final book published by Black Sparrow Press before John Martin sold the Bukowski catalog to HarperCollins.
None of the copies were for sale. According to the colophon, only 110 copies were produced, but there were additional copies for Montfort and Martin’s personal use that were unnumbered.
Of the 110, this is copy #6, hand-numbered on the colophon. It captures everyday moments like going to the track, as well as important events, like Bukowski’s wedding to Linda Lee Beighle.
It’s a very well-produced book, with thick glossy pages that do the photographs justice. It comes in a well-constructed slipcase that matches the color of the book. The book itself measures approximately 11” x 9” and is quite heavy for a 100-page book.
The book itself is in Near Fine condition with some very light soiling to the white spine, which is exposed when in the slipcase. The slipcase is also in Near Fine condition with a bit of very light soiling near the opening, probably from it sticking out from a bookshelf.
All in all, a really nice copy of an extremely well-produced book.
