There are a couple of Charles Bukowski items in this issue. The first is an excerpt from the Black Sparrow Press Graphic Arts edition of The Captain is Out to Lunch and The Sailors Have Taken Over the Ship, which was published prior to the Black Sparrow edition. The second is a review of Gat Brewer’s book on Bukowski.

But Jack Micheline is the emotional heart of this issue. Micheline was one of the few Beat writers who Bukowski actually praised and was friends with. Micheline is remembered across five separate pieces: an interview by A.D. Winans, "Last Days With Jack Micheline" by Janine Pommy Vega, a poem for Micheline by Winans, his own poem "Sixty Seven Poems For Downtrodden Saints," "Jack Micheline...Poet Of The People" also by Winans, and a further tribute by Michael McClure.

The issue also pays tribute to Kathy Acker, remembered by Gary Pulsifer. Further features include David Meltzer interviewed by Simon Warner, a profile of Lawrence Ferlinghetti and the Beats by Jim Burns, Gregory Corso's "Bomb Poem" introduced by John Rety, Carolyn Cassady live in Brighton by Brian Bell, a remembrance of Denise Levertov by Brian Dalton, an interview with Philip Whalen on Dharma Talks, Doug Brinkley discussing "Always On the Bus" with Todd Bauer, and Dan Barth's "On First Looking into Ginsberg's Sneakers." The issue closes with coverage of Anton Rosenberg and the Beat Scene Review section.
