Kevin Ring’s Beat Scene magazine is a treasure for Bukowski and Beat fans alike. I’m in the “never the twain shall meet” camp, but in this case the exception is deserved. Plus, Kevin’s a good guy who put a lot of work and high production value into each issue of the magazine.
Published in May 1991, Beat Scene 12 is a great early issue. For Bukowski fans, this issuei came with a flexi disc featuring two poems from Charles Bukowski’s Reading in Hamburg, Germany on May 5, 1978:
- Love & Fame & Death
- I’ve Always Had Trouble With Money
The issue also includes three first appearance Bukowski poems:
- Betrayed
- Love Poem
- Peace
There is also a review of Neeli's Bukowski biography, Hank.

About seven of the pages in the magazine have tears that look like they were from a production issue. See Hunter S. Thompson photo. Otherwise, Near Fine.
I don’t have the experience to grade records, but if this copy were a book, I’d rate it Near-Fine.
It's rare to find both the magazine and flexi disc together.
