Published in 1984 by Paget Press (Sutton West), this is the First Hardcover Trade Edition of the original script for Barfly, preceding the Black Sparrow Press edition by three years.
In terms of the story line, roughly 80 percent of the dialog is the same as the Black Sparrow version. Most of the changes take place in the second half of the script.
This version contains 20 Charles Bukowski drawings of various events that happen in the book. To me, they are much more interesting to look at than the various pictures from the set of the movie that appeared in the Black Sparrow screenplay.
This is the hardcover trade edition from Paget Press, with an unknown number of copies produced. It’s fair to say there weren’t many. It’s not common to find copies in this good of shape, either softcover or hardcover. The black color of the cover tends to create a lot of scratches and edgewear. This copy is in Near Fine ++ condition with tiny bumps to the corners that expose the white underneath and a very small amount of shelf wear to the bottom of the boards.
I ordered this for my mum, who loves Buk so much that he was a household name in our house growing up. She has all of his works (apart from post office which she lent out and was never returned). I wanted to treat her to something special and this shop is the very place to get the perfect gift for her. It was shipped the same day and arrived to the UK and was delivered in less than a week.
