Published by Illuminati in 1987, this is a signed copy of A Visitor Complains of My Disenfranchise. According to Abel Debritto’s landmark book, A Catalog of Ordinary Madness, only 15 copies were signed by Bukowski:
“As payment for infringing copyright, 15 copies were give to Black Sparrow Press which were then signed by Bukowski”.
The chapbook consists of a single poem in three parts. As the title implies, the poem is about one of those visits from a fellow “writer” that Bukowski always hated. Thus, the chapbook is designed as a door, complete with a metal doorknob. The design also features deckled edges and a saddle stitch binding. It measures 3.5” x 9”.
The limitation says a total of 225 copies were produced, but you sure don't see many around. I think John Martin must have stepped in before many could be sold.
While the design is beautiful, the doorknob often separated from the book, which appears to have happened to this copy before it was repaired. However, it’s not obvious. There are also some light scratches to the paper covers and inside French flaps are no longer glued -- but you wouldn't notice unless you looked.
Overall, in Near Fine-minus condition.
