I’d never read Dan Fante before, but this is a solid L.A. noir story. I’ve been told when he was good, he was really good. And when he was bad, he was really bad.
Dan Fante (1944–2015) was an American novelist, poet, and playwright best known for gritty, autobiographical works like Chump Change and Mooch that drew on his years of alcoholism and hard living. The son of celebrated writer John Fante, he carried forward his father's spare style while carving out his own distinct voice in Los Angeles literary fiction.
