Renaissance Magazine was the literary supplement of Open City, a Los Angles weekly published by the legendary John Bryan.

Charles Bukowski appeared in at least 40 issues of Open City, greatly contributing to the paper’s success. However, Bukowski would also be at least partially responsible for the paper’s demise.

For the September 20, 1968, issue of Renaissance, Bukowski acted as guest editor and made the decision to print Jack Micheline's Skinny Dynamite. The appearance led to the paper being charged with obscenity and the resulting legal costs would subsequently shut the paper down.

This copy of the issue is signed by both Charles Bukowski and Jack Micheline. It has some small tears to the edges and the fold, as well as creases along all four edges. It is in frail condition with age and yellowing, but it is complete. Very Good + condition.

This issue also includes Bukowski’s long poem, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”.

Signed by both offenders, an important historical document.
